I feel like this is something that I need to learn myself. So this written piece that you’re reading is not just for you but is also teaching me something.
Not many of you may know but I am still learning how to drive and I’ve done my hours, I’ve had my L’s for a while…and when I mean a while, I mean almost two years.
I get so many people asking me when am I going to do the test? When are you going to do the exam?
I’ve seen a lot of my friend pass their exam and get their P’s. They are now free to cruise into the adult world without supervision and keeping their eyes on the road!!
I remember this would bother me because I’m just like, let me do the test already!!
I know how to drive, I want to do the exam and replace the L plate with a P plate right now.
But I had come to the realization that I am not ready. And you are probably wondering why….
I am not ready because there are certain maneuvers that I have yet to master especially reverse parking (like seriously who came up with this idea?)
I remember scrolling through my feed and finding a quote by Pastor Joyce Meyers. This was posted on Instagram because I follow Pastor Steven Furtick and they had a Code Orange Revival Conference.
Pastor Joyce Meyers said:
“Don’t be in such a hurry getting where you’re going that you don’t have what you need to stay there!”
This was something I had to come to terms with myself. That I am simply not ready and even if I were to do the test and the examiner decided not to ask me to reverse park into the spot of his choice – I will still have to do reverse park one day!
Imagine me finding the perfect car park spot and all the rest of the spaces are filled up. And just my luck (note the sarcasm) it requires me to reverse park into that car space. Me being unable to perform that maneuver would struggle ALOT! There’s no way that I will wait until another car leaves especially if I have errands to run.
We all want to get moving, move forward and tackle the next chapter of our lives but what good is that if we haven’t understood the current chapter properly.
You might think that you have it all together, you know what to do and the steps you need to take but if God is stopping you in your tracks before you go ahead of Him – then there’s a reason why.
Yeah you may have succeeded in a couple of tests but if God is saying that you need to work on some areas such as patience, obedience, faithfulness, trust, willingness, joyful giving, holding your tongue, listening and so forth.
Then you need to work on those areas because those may be the things that will help you to be resilient and help you to thrive in your next season.
In a normal test, if you fail – you don’t get a second chance. If you get a chance to make-up for it and you fail again – you don’t get that third chance.
Luckily for us we have a God that is gracious. Whatever it is that God wants you to be prepared for or is teaching you – whether you fail at that test over and over again. He will give you another test until you finally understand what He wants!
Other people may be achieving the things that you’ve had your heart set on but you don’t know what they had to do in order to get there.
They may have their own learning curves and other tests that God needed them to pass so that they can enjoy their new position!
I guess this is something that I need to learn – embracing my season and trying to learn from it.
We are all L-platers in life and we’ll eventually become P-plates.
But we never stop learning even after we pass!
God bless,
Susan.
